"More than half of the internet’s top websites use a little known capability of Adobe’s Flash plug-in to track users and store information about them, but only four of them mention the so-called Flash Cookies in their privacy policies, UC Berkeley researchers reported Monday.

Unlike traditional browser cookies, Flash cookies are relatively unknown to web users, and they are not controlled through the cookie privacy controls in a browser. That means...."


I set my "Search for files and folders" to:

Look in: C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player#SharedObjects\

Search for:

791 items found! yikes!

will let you disable third-party flash content from storing crap on your machine, similar to the equivalent cookie setting.

I don't know whether or not to be a little spooked that a flash app can be used to tweak the flash player's settings...

It's how flash games save your progress, so i've played with those .sol files frequently.
