It's LJ Rumour time again! (Last used 12/7/08) [Dec. 10th, 2009|08:14 pm]
Sarah
Here's a nice prank to pull if you have very understanding friends.

This prank is is based on a "screenshot" of a post from a sex community, where the poster is talking about their sexual fetishes. (The content is safe for work though)

The trick is : Everyone who sees the screenshot sees their own username and LJ icon as the poster!

The post with their name HAS NEVER existed, and no one can see anyone else's name in the screenshot, it all happens on their own computer.

As people post in your comment section, they'll quickly start to realise that EVERYONE is saying "Hey! How come you posted about me?", and eventually the prank will be discovered for what it is.

Copy and paste the following into your journal:

Look who I've seen posting a comment on "Sick and Disturbing sex acts."!

For the programmers out there, here's a link to the source code and resources:

A nice touch I implemented is the program remembers the IP address of the viewer, and fixes the name in the image to that IP address.
That way, once someone sees it, and asks a family member/friend/partner/whoever to log in and check the name on the post for them, as long as it's on the same network, they'll see the original persons name. =)

And here's an example in action (I just know someone's not going to read this post first, and shout at me lots.):

Look who I've seen posting a comment on "Sick and Disturbing sex acts."!
