Interesting situation at a university. [May. 21st, 2012|08:42 am]
The proposal for a Men's Centre at Simon Fraiser University is causing a shit storm from the feminists there.

A good article is here: http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/05/20/robyn-urback-on-shocking-anti-male-hatred-on-the-sfu-campus/

About the Nokia GD55 again... [May. 21st, 2012|06:57 am]

There's some on eBay! Yay!

Also, there's replacement covers that have an aerial internally! WOOOO! That's decided it for me!

Mysterious Jewel-thief - Part 2! [May. 18th, 2012|09:18 am]
I posted back here, about a mysterious "Joule-Thief" circuit that had a single inductor coil... and no sense wiring...
http://sarahs-muse.livejournal.com/1152898.html

It had a mystery part labelled 2100a, and 0609/50

Jodi's found the part!

It's a Schottky rectifier:
http://www.datasheets.org.uk/DSA00250178-datasheet.html

I need to figure out what the value of the inductor is - without a way of measuring it.
So I'll have to figure out a bit of the data sheet, measure the power output at one volt, and try and work the maths backwards!

It's 1 volt in and 4.92 volts out.
At 3 volts in, it's 4.94 volts out.

I hooked it up to a back light for an LCD panel and powered it at 3 volts rather than 5, and it sucked .62 amps! The rectifier got quite warm too. So I think driving it off a couple of AA's is ruled out if I used this DC-DC converter.

Do you remember when mobiles where SMALL? I miss my GD55, and want one like it! [May. 17th, 2012|06:15 pm]
It's so cute!

It's the size of a box of matches!
70mm x 37mm x 15mm

People where surprised when I answered my "keyring". It was nice and light, and could fit in almost any pocket.

The only down side to the phone, was the little aerial. If Nokia would make one of these, without an external one, I'd buy it in a flash!

Edit:

The "Modu 1" is a bit smaller than the GD55 - and comes with jackets that have things like video camera, and normal mobile phone buttons. £130 too - not bad!
I'll keep my eyes out for one.

Here's a revamped light sensor project for the Arduino [May. 16th, 2012|11:27 pm]
I've not added sound to the video yet (music and things, NOT me talking!), and I need to tidy up the code before I stick it online.

The project is nothing fancy, but it's a good demonstration of the Arduino "talking" to a PC. =D

Wisdom teeth are GOOD! [May. 15th, 2012|08:47 am]
When I was about 12, I had four fillings in my back teeth. They ended up being removed. The remaining ones moved over when my wisdom teeth came up!
So now I have 28 teeth, no gaps, and all my Wisdom teeth! YAY! for Wisdom teeth!
